Four Hundred Women
The Great Wall of Vulva is made from plaster casts of 400 women's genitals. Spectacle and education combined. Knowledge is power. Freedom from genital shame and anxiety is the purpose.
Women's genitals have long been a source of fascination but also of misinformation and confusion.
In 2006, British artist Jamie McCartney embarked on a project to create a monumental wall sculpture to end the confusion, at a scale that could not be ignored.

For 400 women their private parts have gone public.

Deliberate and casual misinformation is leading to increasing genital anxiety and an exponential rise in unnecessary, cosmetic genital surgeries. The sculpture, and by extension his website (The Great Wall of Vulva) and the book, are Jamie’s one-man campaign to change that by simply demonstrating normal, vulva diversity.
